This year the summer seemed to catch us a little bit more unaware than usually. We all know that fun summer activities (like… sun and beer…? the beach…? What do people with actual vacation do…?) can take some attention away from gaming. Luckily, you can rest assured. Despite the seemingly quiet times, EXT has not gone anywhere. The officer team is still working hard at keeping the community active and constantly searching for new stuff for us to dive into.
Out of the current projects, there’s one thing we can tell you right off the bat; Star Citizen isn't released yet (surprise!), but there are some news.
ESO is still big and gaining mass, and people are playing in the middle of the summer thanks to carefully timed events. Talking about playing even during the summer, Overwatch is also still at it, and has definitely made the summer more interesting.
Destiny 2 lurks on the horizon, and many players are looking forward to it. Destiny 2 being a new game with great potential, we are very busy laying the necessary foundation to go all-out upon release. Read on to find out all about it.
The wait isn't over yet! We have seen what's coming, and it looks great. Chris Roberts' epic space adventure is awaiting the release of alpha 3.0, featuring procedurally generated planetary landing, new missions and new game mechanics such as hauling. Unfortunately, the release dates are not set yet. Hopefully Gamescom will reveal the schedule this August. Until then, join the SC social discord channel so as to follow event organisation and game chat concerning exterminatus Star Citizen activity!
Elder Scrolls Online
The latest update takes us back to questing with Morrowind. The new zone is arguably the most visually stunning. The quest lines were varied and are arguably more entertaining with some really nice touches and twists. The amount of detail is a pleasant surprise – like watching an NPC get a little extra story after the quest was complete.
There were no new dungeons but a new trial has been added – the Halls of Fabrication. EXT cleared the normal version after a few goes, interesting mechanics and great effects as always. The vet version is quite a bit harder and we may have a push at that after the summer slackness passes!
The next DLC is imminent which features two new dungeons together with new monster sets and a myriad of achievements. We are looking forward to it very much!
PvP in ESO is also going fantastic! Our organized group is one of the strongest forces in Cyrodiil at this time – something to really feel good about! We still have regular sign ups, and have a slow but constant stream of new guildies to join us. This allows us to field a decent force on the battlefield. That activity also shows on forums and discord - we post builds, discuss tactics and exchange info and banter via discord. Our guild was also very active during the recent ESO event (double AP). We had groups going every night for the whole event - a lot of PvP. Mlooz has captured some nice moments from that week here.
Single Battlegrounds have been introduced; we have also been working on establishing a presence there. Sadly a series of bugs prevented a reliable queue for pre-made groups. It was recently fixed, so we will renew our efforts in that area of PvP as well!
Exterminatus is going strong in Overwatch. Some are playing Competitive, while many others enjoy Quick Play in groups almost every night. There's also a small number of members playing on their own; all of you are welcome to stop by any evening and play with us.
No better time to pick up the game again: A new hero - Doomfist - was released recently and is currently shaking up the meta a bit, and the Summer Games event is upon us!
This time in Australia (where it is winter right now.... don't ask). A fan-favorite game mode retuns: RocketLeagueLucioball; this time with a competetive mode added. Several awesome new skins and other cosmetics, as well as a chance to get the ones you missed last time around.
Every Friday we have our Community Night - for those who only have time to play OW once a week. With the focus on having some fun together!
So if you're interested in playing with others, either for fun or for glory - talk to any OW officer to get you hooked up. Or just show up on Discord and say hi. Works either way!
Destiny 2 will be released on October 24th, and playable for pre-purchases from 28th to 30th of August. For more info, check out Genophix's post.
Gamescom is a trade fair for video games held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is used by many video game developers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware. For us, this means trying out new games, marveling at all the awesome loot and just being epically excited over the best hobby in existence.
And we are going to Gamescom again, from 22 to 26 August! YAY!
If you want to take a trip down the memorylane, you can watch the video from last year:
If you’re not going yourself, we still recommend following the Gamescom-2017 channel on our discord – we will be posting stories, pictures and details all through the week.
And if general stuff wasnt enough – take note that both Lefty and Genophix will be traveling in the press and business areas – possibly bringing you news and tidbits from developers way before they hit any other news channels. You might even have a chance to drop your own questions for some developers – Lefty will update everyone on her interview list when it is confirmed.
For the past few months, we've been actively trying to provide new things for the community to do together.
If you are interested in or have input for any of the following areas, please contact @community-engagement on our Discord (or message Genophix, JLena, Lanae, Menegroth, SteppinRazor or Vorian directly).
Taking a break from the daily grind
No matter which game you play (or if you play anything at all currently), there are lots of small-ish games perfect for an evening with friends - a nice change of pace from what you play on all other nights. Cards Against Humanity, all kinds of board and card games on Tabletop Simulator, DnD, Worms..
Keep an eye on #announce and the event planner on the forums, there's something going on every week (usually Saturday).
Gaming in the middle
There's also plenty of gaming going on between "MMO that takes up all my evenings" and "Casual fun for one night". Currently quite a few of us are playing Fortnite, for example. Recently we gave Final Fantasy XIV a go, and several people are still doing some BDO. Just keep in mind that you have hundreds of willing gamers at your disposal, who you can play with. Discord is your friend here - tell people what you are playing and find others who might join you.
Show off your skills
Our Twitch and YouTube channels are looking for content.
Whether you'd like to stream some of your gameplay (once or regularly), create or participate in a show or podcast, or just upload that one sweet play you made: We need you!
Have your say
Got an idea for a game that could occupy our time for a few days, weeks, or years? Want to run a fun event? Would like to join more casual stuff, but Saturday doesn't work for you? Have any other input on how to improve our community?
Tell us! Message any officer, or make a post on the forums, and we'll work things out together.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading, and let’s keep on gaming together!
